Another common issue is a faulty thermocouple or thermopile, which are safety components designed to sense the flame and control gas flow. If these parts are worn out or dirty, they can interrupt the signal to keep gas flowing — causing your fireplace to shut down or fail to ignite altogether.

It’s also worth checking your wall switch or remote system. Weak batteries, faulty wiring, or worn-out switches can all prevent your fireplace from receiving the ignition command. And if your fireplace uses a millivolt system (common in older models), even a small drop in voltage can stop ignition from happening.

Lastly, you may be dealing with a shut-off valve issue or a tripped safety switch. In some cases, gas may not be reaching the fireplace at all, which should always be checked by a licensed professional to ensure safety.
